To address climate change due to forest loss, the World Bank started their Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF). Several countries already donated millions. Several countries already donated millions for this facility.
Investing in peatswamp conservation and restoration is very attractive for this mechanism as not only the carbon of the forests will be saved, but also the much larger stocks in the peat soils. The fund should take sustainable development in the peatland areas as their main approach as to support local livelihoods in order to reduce the CO2 emissions from peatland degradation.
